Neighbors in the Piantini sector, in the National District, complained about the installation of a “high capacity” electrical plant in a building occupied by a private company.
The residents called the Ministry of the Environment and the mayor of the National District to investigate the situation and impose the corresponding corrective measures.
During a visit to the editorial office of Listín Diario, residents in Piantini described the situation as “aenvironmental and health aggression“that violates the rules of coexistence and public health.
They claim that the power plant located in their sector spends the entire day on, generating noises that unsettle and keep the lives of families tense as their health deteriorates due to this situation.
They clarify that they are not opposed to business development, but they believe that by installing a company or business, the life and tranquility of those who reside in the area cannot be altered.
Carlos Palmerlawyer and who served as spokesperson for the complainants, assures that the plant was installed in violation of Law 64-00 and they base their concerns on it.
They demand that the authorities act urgently and rely on non-compliance with the General Environmental Law and its noise regulations.
“There is a lack of transparency in the permits granted to that company, because they put in a team of that caliber and no owner shows their face. As an affected party, we report to the Department of the Environment and the “Green Line”. There is negligence or influence peddling in this situation,” Palmer said.
On your side Emilio Pereza journalist resident in the sector, indicated that given the constant complaints from the families, a representative of “Green Line” went to the affected apartment complex to measure the decibels of the power plant.
“He entered the site where the plant is located and when he came out he said that his meter was damaged; they think we are stupid. How is he going to go out to work with damaged equipment? When you hear that, you think that the authorities receive bribes,” said the communicator and called for a “serious” investigation of the problem.
While Lois Alouanother resident of the sector and an engineer by profession, estimated that the plant exceeds the 100KWa horsepower designed for use industrial and not domestic.
“I made technical sound measurements with several applications and about 80 decibels were recorded at 20 meters away, which is where my house is. This triples what is allowed by the regulations, which establishes a limit of 60 decibels just one meter from the equipment; this is a abuse”, he emphasized.

“Exposure to carbon monoxide generates pneumonitis due to hypersensitivity; This, with the constant inhalation of these heavy metals and gases from the machine, leads to pulmonary fibrosis, a condition that attacks the alveolar interstitium and has no cure,” explained the doctor.
He highlighted critical cases in the building, including people with the disease chronic obstructive pulmonary (COPD) and asthma, whose life expectancy is drastically reduced by constant exposure to these gases.
“It’s not just the noise that disturbs psychiatrically the structure of the organism, is the progressive poisoning by an exhaust pipe inserted in our homes,” they concluded in their complaint.
