The guitarist Tom Dumontby the American band No Doubtreceived the diagnosis of Parkinson’s early onset. The information was disclosed in a video that the artist published on his Instagram.
“A few years ago, I started showing several symptoms,” he said. “I went to my doctor, I went to a neurologist, I had a series of tests and I was diagnosed with early-onset Parkinson’s. It’s been a struggle, a daily struggle.”
According to Dumont, the diagnosis will not prevent him from performing with the group in May, when No Doubt takes the stage at Spherethe largest sphere in the world, in Las Vegas. The musician also described preparations for the show as a type of relief during this period of his life.
“(I’m) going through old recordings, looking at old photos, relearning old songs, rehearsing and creating all the video material for Sphere. It’s made me think about how grateful I am for the life I’ve been living as a musician all these years.”
He also stated that he intends to release, in the future, a video with more details about his current condition, and that he has been very inspired by other celebrities who have come forward in recent years to talk about Parkinson’s.
“I think it helps reduce stigma and obviously raises awareness, which is really important for prevention and research.”
Founded in 1986, No Doubt is known for mixing musical genres such as punk, pop and reggae. The band came to Brazil in 1997, during the tour for their album “Tragic Kingdom“, and there is the singer Gwen Stefani as its vocalist.
