Power outage reported in northern areas of Guayaquil

Every year more megawatts of energy are added and recovered, said Inés Manzano

In areas of the north of the Main Port, service interruptions were reported at noon on April 11while in the La Aurora parish (Daule) there were news between the afternoon and evening.

CNEL confirms the cuts and their initial cause

In a statement, the National Electricity Corporation (CNEL) confirmed that various alerts of interruption of electrical service were registered on saturday 11 in several sectors of Guayaquil, as well as in urbanizations located along the road to Samborondón and León Febres-Cordero avenue, in the Daule canton.

“According to the technical reports, the main effects were related to the distribution transformer overloadcaused by the sustained increase in the demand for electrical energy,” indicated this sunday 12.

The heat wave, the main factor of the overload

The entity indicated that the behavior responds “to the intense heat wave that affects the region, characterized by high temperatures and extremely high levels of ultraviolet radiation.” This according to reports from the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (Inamhi).

The CNEL explained that the conditions have generated “a massive use of air conditioning systems, such as air conditioners and fans, significantly increasing the load on the electrical network”.

For this reason, he cited that when using equipment above its capacity, protection mechanisms were activated that caused the temporary cuts.

New interruptions and actions of the CNEL

This Sunday, in Guayaquil Users reported new service interruptions in areas of the north and south of the city.

The entity maintained that technical personnel are deployed carrying out operational maneuvers and corrective work to restore the electrical supply in the shortest time possible. (YO)
