    ‘Do not expect statements from me against peace in the country’: Iván Cepeda on Nelson Velásquez’s Vallenata party in the Itagüí prison


    In a statement to the media, the presidential candidate, Iván Cepeda, This April 10, he referred to the controversy that involved the bosses of the La Paz prison in Itagüí and a party with a vallenata party by the singer Nelson Velásquez.

    Some of these bosses served as spokespersons for the Government’s urban peace strategy and The arrest warrant had been withdrawn due to negotiations. The same executive suspended these meetings after his alleged participation on April 8 in the illegal party became known.

    From Bucaramanga, the senator was asked about the illegal party that the bosses of the criminal combos held in the Itagüí prison and pointed out that: “No, I believe that the prison authorities should deal with that, of course, “But don’t expect statements from me against peace in the country.”

    Apparently, women, drinks and Nelson Velásquez entered the party, who was in charge of entertaining the Vallenato party. Among the objects found by authorities the next day were:

    • 9 cans of 473 ml Pilsen beer.
    • 11 bottles of Corona type beer 330 ml each.
    • Nine bottles of Crown beer 210 ml each.
    • Three glass bottles cocktail type liquor 275 ml each.
    • Three cocktail liquor cans 250 ml each.
    • a bottle of Gato Negro wine type liquor 250 ml.
    • two bottles of José Cuervo Liqueur 750 ml each.
    • A bottle of liquor Caldas Old Rum 750 ml.
    • A bottle of Buchanan’s type liquor approximately 400 ml of content, which was already started.

    Objects that caused outrage on social networks, since they are more typical of a vacation spot than a maximum security prison.

    The councilor of Medellín, Claudia Carrasquilla, has been at the forefront of complaints about irregular acts in the prison, even revealing videos of how people and cars entered the jail.

    In a publication by X that denounced these acts, he wrote: “Did the doors not open in the maximum security prison? Mr. Minister of Justice, I have to deny it with evidence. “The videos from the security cameras show the opposite: the doors were wide open for dozens of guests to enter for a Vallenato party.”

    According to the official, more than 16 high-end cars entered, There was a complete concert by Nelson Velásquez that lasted almost the entire afternoon. People who were not visitors entered and, according to her, the most serious thing, civilians, without uniform, controlling the entry instead of INPEC.

    The same councilor in an interview with EL TIEMPO expressed her rejection of these acts and questioned the suspension of arrest warrants for several drug lords negotiating peace with the Government: “The question they should ask themselves is why they have been receiving benefits and prerogatives for three years. without there being a real possibility of negotiation so that they submit to justice again, if they are already condemned.”

    Likewise, on several occasions, Carrasquilla has assured that the singer Nelson Velásquez was paid, 100 million pesos for the party, which has raised questions about the origin of the money.

    Izabel Zuleta, the coordinator of what they have called a space for socio-legal dialogue in the Itagüí prison, which are the peace talks with the Government, spoke about the case on his X account.

    “We reject what happened in the Itagüí prison: what happened is not acceptable and That is why we made the decision to suspend the dialogues for the moment. while we clarify the participation or not of the spokespersons in the urban peace process,” said the senator.

    In fact, he said that they were not going to accept that they fail to comply with the INPEC regulations: “We will continue working to strengthen the reduction of violence and homicides in the Aburrá Valley, as we have achieved so far, “But we are not going to pander to non-compliance with INPEC regulations.”

    Due to this scandal, Colonel Daniel Gutiérrez, director of INPEC, removed the director of the Itagüí prison and opened an investigation into seven officials of that entity.
