The administration of President José Raúl Mulino will launch, starting this Wednesday, April 15 at 6:00 am, the fuel subsidy program aimed at transporters, a measure that seeks to alleviate the operating costs of the sector and, indirectly, contain the impact on the rates paid by the population.
The plan, which is part of the commitments acquired after the meeting on April 1 with transportation representatives, will allow the delivery of fuel at preferential prices at stations nationwide.
As announced, benefited carriers will have access to the following subsidized prices:
91 octane gasoline: 0.88 cents per liter
Diesel: 0.90 cents per liter
95 octane gasoline: $1.00 per liter
The measure will initially be available for selective transportation (taxis), collective transportation (buses) and school transportation, sectors that have faced pressure from the sustained rise in fuel costs.
The Executive announced that other segments, such as cargo transportation, tourism and artisanal vessels, will be incorporated in a later phase, the schedule of which will be announced soon.
RECORD
To benefit from the program, transporters must complete a prior registration on the Panamá Conecta digital platform (panamaconnect.gob.pa), where it will be validated that the units are duly enabled within the contemplated categories.
According to the authorities, hundreds of transporters have already registered, which reflects a high participation in the initial days of the process.
Once the registration is validated, access to the subsidy will be direct: the driver will only have to go to any fuel station, provide their identification number and vehicle license plate to receive the benefit.
CONTROL
The Government highlighted that the program incorporates technological tools to guarantee an “efficient, transparent and focused” distribution of the subsidy, avoiding deviations and ensuring that it reaches exclusively the defined sectors.
In addition, it was reported that fuel station personnel have already been trained to operate the system, as part of the deployment prior to the plan coming into effect.
