Thousands of music fans landed in California to enjoy a weekend of partying at the traditional Coachella Festival which this year is headed by Sabrina Carpenter, Justin Bieber and Karol G.
Coachella is celebrated with the same programming for two consecutive weekends, from April 10 to 12 and from April 17 to 19, in Indio, and opens the festival circuit in USA.
Under the sun of the desert Coachella Valley, and temperatures close to 30ºC, cowboy boots, short shorts and fringes abounded.
A lot of shine, shine and brown tones marked the visual of this edition.
The event started this Friday with a diverse offering featuring emerging talents such as Teddy Swims, KATSEYE and Creepy Nuts, as well as established artists like Moby.
The highlight of the first night is the participation of the pop star Sabrina Carpenter, who promised “the most ambitious show” of his career, in an interview with Perfect magazine.
The performance of “Manchild” premiered at Coachella in 2024, when he released his catchy summer hit “Espresso.”
The artist offered a taste to his followers with “Sabrina Carpenter’s pit stop”, an activation outside the festival in which fans can stop to have a slushie, stock up on memorabilia and, of course, flood their social networks with selfies.
“She described it as a surreal fantasy land,” Cristina Calzadilla, from Airbnb’s communications team, with whom the 26-year-old singer partnered for the activity, told AFP.
Part of the exhibit encompasses a gas station and contains the “Pretty Girl” van from her “House Tour” video, released this week, in which Carpenter appears with actresses Margaret Qualley and Madelyn Cline.
“It’s much more special when you can immerse yourself and touch that concept that an artist is trying to sell,” said Lina Luaces, Miss Universe Cuba, while posing in one of the antique cars in the exhibition.
Already inside the festival, thousands of fans would be distributed among the nine stages to enjoy a first day of lots of music that will close with the Italian DJ Anyma, who must premiere his new production “ÆDEN.”
Bieber fever
The party will begin on Saturday with performances by techno representatives such as Armin van Buuren and Adam Beyer, k-pop stars such as Taemin, and British dance phenomenon, PinkPantheress.
Another anticipated act is Nine Inch Noize, the collaboration between industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails and German producer Boys Noize, as well as New York rockers The Strokes, who return with a new album scheduled for June, after a six-year hiatus.
Nostalgia should be amplified with the expected appearance of Justin Bieber, who will close the night.
The cherry on the cake on Sunday will be the Colombian reggaeton singer Karol G, first Latina to headline the festival.
The winner of eight awards Latin Grammys debuted at Coachella in 2022 with a show that honored the stars of the Latin music like Selena, Celia Cruz and Daddy Yankee.
For this year’s show, the “Provenza” singer is expected to embrace the Caribbean star visual of her latest work, “Tropicoqueta.”
And this year’s festival will close with a screening under the stars of the first episode of the third season of “Euphoria,” the HBO series that returns to television after a four-year hiatus.
It is the first initiative of its kind at Coachella, which will incidentally be broadcast on YouTube live.
