At a depth of 300 meters, one of the four miners who were trapped in the Santa Fe minelocated in the municipality of The Rosary, Francisco Zapata Nájera42 years old, resisted 13 days underground, inside an air capsule that allowed him to survive, be rescued and taken to a hospital in Mazatlán.
Before being transported by helicopter, said employee underwent a medical check-up and received energy for his consumption, given the precarious health conditions he presented when being extracted from the flooded tunnels of this mine by different rescue teams.
Zapata Nájera remained trapped by the water and mud that entered all the tunnels, when the tailings of the dam spilled. The bright light of his flashlight allowed the rescue forces to locate him since last Tuesday afternoon and intensify the extraction work.

The National Coordinator of Civil Protection, Laura Velázquez Alzúareported that the rescue of the miner, originally from Santiago Papasquiaro, Durangomotivates the different civil and military bodies, who work tirelessly in order to locate the fourth and last worker who remains trapped.
He commented that when he was placed inside an air bubble and covered with water, he was hydrated and fed with energy, and then taken on a helicopter to be transported to a hospital.
The Unified Command reported that during the early hours of this Wednesday, April 8, the third lifeless miner was located, so the Sinaloa Prosecutor’s Office began the shelter and transfer protocol for his full identification.
“In this process, attention and support to the families is maintained. In addition, on-site actions are intensified to locate the last worker who remains in the area,” a statement stated.
