Engineer Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture, confirmed that the development and growth witnessed by the agricultural sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain comes thanks to the support given by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of the country, and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, which laid the foundations for sustainable development and contributed to enhancing food security in addition to supporting Bahraini farmers and enabling them to expand production and raise their efficiency.
The Minister of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture also noted the continuous attention and care that the agricultural sector receives from Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of the King of the country and Chair of the Advisory Council of the National Initiative for the Development of the Agricultural Sector, which has effectively contributed to enhancing the sustainability of the agricultural sector and developing its system, and supporting its cadres and workers in a way that enhances its contribution to comprehensive national development paths.
This came during the signing by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture of agreements to allocate (12) agricultural lands to Bahraini farmers in the Buri area, with a total area of 81,996.93 square meters, as part of the national efforts to enhance food security and support Bahraini farmers, in the presence of Sheikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, Secretary-General of the National Initiative for the Development of the Agricultural Sector, and a number of officials in the Ministry.
The agreements were signed by the Ministry, Engineer Asim Abdul Latif Abdullah, Undersecretary for Agriculture and Livestock Affairs, with twelve Bahraini farmers, according to which twelve agricultural lands, each with an area ranging between 6,000 and 8,000 square metres, were allocated as part of a public auction through the government land investment platform, allocated exclusively to Bahraini farmers, with contracts extending for ten years, including a grace period of one year to enable farmers to establish agricultural facilities. And prepare it.
The Minister stated that this step comes in fulfillment of the Kingdom’s efforts to continue strengthening national food security and developing the agricultural sector, stressing that the Ministry is keen to provide an integrated system of support for Bahraini farmers, which includes providing periodic technical and advisory services through the specialized agricultural supervision teams, which conduct regular field visits to follow up on agricultural operations and provide the necessary technical recommendations, ensuring the success of agricultural projects, the sustainability of production, and raising its efficiency.
He added that this step comes within the Ministry’s strategy aimed at expanding the scope of sustainable agricultural activity, empowering Bahraini farmers, and increasing the volume of local agricultural production of various crops, thus contributing to the food security system in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
He stated that the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture is currently working to complete the basic infrastructure of the allocated lands, in addition to extending the main irrigation networks to the entrances to all lands, in support of adopting sustainable agricultural methods and raising production efficiency.
In turn, Sheikha Maram bint Issa Al Khalifa, Secretary-General of the National Initiative for Agricultural Sector Development, confirmed that the allocation of land in the Buri area represents a practical model of the effective partnership between the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture and the National Initiative for Agricultural Sector Development, with the aim of enabling Bahraini farmers to expand production and raise their operational efficiency, thus enhancing the development of the agricultural sector and increasing its contribution to achieving food security.
She explained that the National Initiative, under the directives of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of the King of the country and Chair of the Advisory Council of the National Initiative for the Development of the Agricultural Sector, may God protect her, continues to develop programs and plans aimed at supporting Bahraini farmers by providing land and agricultural services, noting that the Bahraini farmer is the main pillar of the national food security system.
It is worth noting that the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture recently signed agreements to allocate (6) agricultural lands to Bahraini farmers in the Hoora Aali area, with a total area of 40,138.20 square metres, as part of ongoing national efforts to enhance food security and support Bahraini farmers.
