Laura Dern has replaced Helena Bonham Carter in the fourth season of ‘The White Lotus’, HBO Max announced this Tuesday.
Dern’s entry into the series comes after Bonham Carter left her role last week due to differences over the script when filming had already begun on the French Riviera.
However, Dern will not play the role that Bonham Carter had, but rather a new character created for her by Mark Whiteaccording to the specialized media Variety.
It will be the third collaboration for Dern and White, who worked together in the film ‘Year of the Dog’ (‘The Year of the Dog’, 2007) and in the series ‘Enlightened’ (‘Iluminada’, 2011-2013).
The new season of this social satire, which takes place over a week at a vacation resort, follows a new group of guests and employees of the exclusive White Lotus hotels over the course of a week, coinciding with the Cannes Film Festival.
Among the hotels that appear this season are the Airelles Château de la Messardière, which serves as the White Lotus du Cap, and the Hotel Martinez, the most emblematic of the Croisette – the Cannes seafront -, which becomes the White Lotus Cannes.
Bonham Carter was going to have one of the central characters of a season that will also feature Vincent Cassel, Steve Coogan, Alexander Ludwig, Kumail Nanjiani and Nadia Tereszkiewicz, among others. In addition to Chloe Bennet, Heather Graham, Rosie Pérez or Max Greenfield.
In its first two seasons, ‘The White Lotus’ accumulated 15 Emmy Awards and two Golden Globes, while its third installment earned 23 nominations at the 77th Emmy Awards, reaffirming its impact on both critics and audiences.
Previous seasons have had as a backdrop international tourist destinations such as the island of Maui, in Hawaii; Sicily, in Italy; and areas of Thailand such as Chiang Mai and Koh Samui, reinforcing the series’ hallmark of placing its narrative in paradisiacal enclaves crossed by social tensions.
