It included the head of the Human Rights Committee in the Italian House of Representatives, Laura Boldrini, and the Vice-Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Emanuele Luberfido, along with the Advisor to the Foreign Affairs Committee, Stefano Tabacchi, and the Italian Consul in Algeria, Federico Di Giovanni, in the presence of Sister Fatima Al-Mahfouz, representative of the Front in Italy, in the presence of the Vice-President of the National Council, Mr. Abdullah Lamman Al-Markhi, members of the National Council office, and the Secretary-General of the National Council, Mr. Al-Saleh Ibrahim Al-Saleh.

At the beginning of the meeting, the President of the National Council welcomed the Italian parliamentary delegation, appreciating the visit, which reflects interest in learning more about the reality of the Sahrawi people in refugee camps due to the Moroccan occupation, which will form a basis in contributing to the definition of the justice of the Sahrawi issue and accompanying the just struggle of the Sahrawi people for self-determination, freedom and independence.

The President of the National Council presented an introductory overview to the Italian delegation on the role of the Sahrawi legislative institution in the political life of the Sahrawi Republic, highlighting the role of parliamentary diplomacy and its importance in improving parliamentary relations and introducing the Sahrawi issue in various parliamentary platforms, through activating the Sahrawi parliamentary friendship committees with many national and regional parliaments across the world.

The meeting also discussed ways to enhance parliamentary cooperation in raising awareness of the human rights situation in the occupied territories and Moroccan violations against Sahrawis and civilian prisoners in occupation prisons.

The President of the National Council also gave a detailed presentation on the latest developments in the Sahrawi issue, stressing that the Sahrawi people are continuing with steadfastness and determination in their legitimate struggle to extract their inalienable right to self-determination and independence, until victory is achieved.

He also touched on the grave violations of the Moroccan occupation in the occupied cities of Western Sahara, highlighting the grave violations and systematic restrictions imposed on Sahrawi citizens by the Moroccan occupation authorities, in clear violation of international law and human rights conventions.

In the same context, the President of the Council condemned the crimes of the Moroccan occupation drones and the serious violations they caused against defenseless civilians in the liberated territories, as these attacks even affected citizens of neighboring peoples, in flagrant violation of all international laws and norms.

The President of the National Council stressed the importance of the role that Italy can play in accompanying and supporting the right of peoples to self-determination, calling for a stand against policies of oppression and domination that seek to perpetuate the logic of the law of the jungle.

For their part, members of the Italian delegation expressed their interest in following up on developments in the Sahrawi issue, stressing the importance of respecting human rights and supporting peaceful paths that enable peoples to exercise their legitimate rights to self-determination.

During the visit, the delegation was able to learn more about the progress of work in the institutions and listen to the latest developments in the Sahrawi issue. (SPA)
