The group of students made known a series of requests, among which stand out the resignation of the rector and the immediate opening of a space for dialogue.

After his departure, Araya affirmed that this morning he managed to advance in the dialogue process with the student movement.

“Before the dialogue session, the students delivered a list of requests to the press. The dialogue was about that list of requests, we read it, we analyzed it, we worked on the operationalization of each of those points,” he said.

Araya indicated that A series of agreements were reached on most issues raised but did not refer to them.

Those agreements, he said, They will be subject to evaluation by the student assembly.

On April 22, a group of students from the UCR took over the Rectory building, located on the university campus Rodrigo Facioin San Pedro de Montes de Oca. Young people protest against rector of that house of studies, Carlos Araya, after negotiations failed FEES 2027.

    What’s next?

Regarding the request for his resignation by a group of students, the rector pointed out that “the other part of that request is establish accountability mechanisms, which is what we have donebut we are going to strengthen them for the student body.”

Regarding the continuity of the taking of the building, Araya pointed out that the decision does not depend on the university administrationbut from the student movement itself.

“The demonstration is not lifted, it has to be seen in the assembly and after the assembly that they are going to have during the day today or tomorrow, they will decide. We will continue talking tomorrow”, he stated.

The leader emphasized that the talks have not concluded and that the process is expected to continue in the coming hours.

“It is a dialogue process that has not ended. We simply defined and agreed on many of the points stated there. Probably tomorrow we will continue with the dialogue,” he added.
