Efficient verification of re-entry-on-leave applications ensured: Labour Department

The Department of Labour says it will allow departure and renewal of Overseas Worker Identification Card in a week (including holidays) for applications for re-entry on leave if they can provide complete documents.
On 4 May, the department issued rules on re-entering the home country for Myanmar migrant workers holding a PJ passport. It said Myanmar workers who would return to Myanmar will have to seek a recommendation from the Myanmar Embassy, consulate or consulate-general in their host country and apply for departure along with required documents and an official-issued recommendation, starting from 1 May.
Among those who have already arrived back in Myanmar just before the rule takes effect on 1 May, workers on leave for more than a month and those whose host countries and workplaces are different from OWIC will have to prove the reason for taking a long leave with complete evidence, it said.
Apart from maternal leave, family care leave, and sick leave, out of leave types allowed by relevant countries, other normal leave types, including annual leave, are limited to a maximum of one month, so the re-entry rules are intended to verify that a worker is officially granted permission to return on leave. It added that the verification on the employer and workplace is intended to protect Myanmar workers under the legal protection of the respective country if there is something difficult at the designated workplace.
Through a thorough and efficient verification, the department will allow departure and OWIC renewal for Myanmar PJ passport holders so that they can go back to their work abroad in time. — MT/ZS
