    Who is Sandra Cordero, the judge who replaces Raúl Llasag on the Constitutional Court? | Politics | News


    Sandra Cordero Garate will assume the magistracy in the Constitutional Court (CC), given the resignation of the judge Raúl Llasagwhich was accepted by the plenary session of the organization this May 4, 2026.

    Constitutional Court accepts resignation of Judge Raúl Llasag; Sandra Cordero assumes this magistracy

    Raúl Llasag, judge of the Constitutional Court, resigns from his position

    The judge will replace Llasag, after being notified by the CC for being on the bench of eligible judges and accepting the position of judge of the constitutional control body.

    Cordero Gárate is a lawyer from Cuenca and a master in Constitutional Law from the Espíritu Santo University, with a higher diploma in Sectional Government Management, Constitutional Law and Fundamental Rights, and a doctor in Jurisprudence.

    According to her professional profile, she is a provincial judge of the Family, Women, Children and Adolescents and Adolescent Offenders Chamber of the Provincial Court of Justice of Azuayfrom December 2013.

    In 2008 was appointed director of Social Development of the Municipality of Cuenca. In 2010on the other hand, was director of the Citizen Training Center of the Azuay Prefecturewhere he developed training and training projects at the provincial level.

    Of 2012 to 2013 worked as an advisor to the Provincial Directorate of Azuay del Judicial Council.

    The new constitutional judge has also worked as a teacher at the Catholic University of Cuenca and has been a speaker at international training events.

    In the period 2023-2025the judge was vice president of the Azuay Bar Association.

    Cordero has also participated in international and national events, in forums, seminars and legal and social workshops. Teacher in areas of Constitutional LawFamily and Gender.

    After accepting the resignation of Raúl Llasag, the Constitutional Court reported that to guarantee an orderly transition, the outgoing judge will continue in office until his replacement is appointed to the full Court. (YO)
