The police in the capital area were called to a house in Árbæ in Reykjavík around 4 o’clock where it was reported that a man had been seriously stabbed.
Grétar Stefánsson, head guard at the police in the capital area, says that the victim of the attack reported the stabbing himself.
Difficult to assess severity
Both the attacker and the victim are in their 40s, and Grétar says that the police do not have the criteria to assess whether the stab wounds were life-threatening. The man was taken to a hospital where he is being cared for.
“It is always difficult to assess whether it is a life-threatening injury because there is very little that can be done in such stabbing attacks. Doctors and nurses assess this,” says Grétar.
The men knew each other. Both of them appeared to be in a different state and the alleged attacker was taken into custody.
“The two of them were at home, so there is no one else to tell about the incident. The man with the stab wounds called in himself,” says Grétar.
