SIBU (May 4): A man was found dead behind a bus stop near a petrol station along Jalan Ulu Lanang here on Monday.
Sibu police chief ACP Azari Miskon said police received information from the public at about 10.20am regarding the discovery.
“The deceased, whose identity is unknown, is estimated to be about 50-years-old and is believed to be a Malaysian, based on the BCG vaccination mark on his left shoulder.
“He was found unconscious and surrounded by ants. Initial examination on the body did not reveal any external injuries,” he said in a statement.
According to Azari, the deceased was of thin build and was wearing a blue shirt and black track pants.
The man also had dragon tattoos on both shoulders and a cobweb tattoo on the back of his right hand.
He said items found at the scene included an empty bottle of alcoholic drink, a 1.5-litre mineral water bottle, a pair of black slippers and a mobile phone.
“Initial investigations found no signs of struggle or elements of foul play at the scene.
“The deceased is believed to have been intoxicated before falling and hitting his head on the ground, with an estimated height difference of about two metres from the bus stop seat to where the body was found.
“Paramedics from Sibu Hospital confirmed the man had died and his body was later sent to the Forensic Department of Sibu Hospital for a post-mortem,” he said.
No witnesses have come forward and no identification documents were found on the deceased, and police are currently trying to locate the deceased’s next of kin.
Those with information are urged to come forward to assist in the investigation.
