Doctor Jeremy London regularly shares advice on social networks and media interviews. He is far from the only one to warn of a danger many underestimate.
In an Instagram post, Mr London listed four things he avoids as a heart surgeon. These are cigarettes, alcohol, pasta and soft drinks.
“First, smoking: without a doubt, the worst thing you can do to your body. This habit destroys your lungs, causes lung cancer, increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. Please don’t smoke,” Mr. London appealed to his followers.
He also warned against alcohol.
“The truth is very unpleasant, but alcohol has a toxic effect on every human cell. Your body, your rules, decide for yourself. For me personally, giving up alcohol was probably one of the best decisions in my life,” said Mr. London.
The doctor also warned against carbonated soft drinks.
“The liquid of death. Don’t drink them, period,” urged Mr. London.
“Avoid white bread and pasta. Avoid refined flour and wheat. Eighty percent of weight control is determined by diet, and twenty percent by exercise. So, food is more important than anything,” emphasized J. London.
In a later interview with Today, he stood firm on his stance on soft drinks, although he admitted that he pushed a bit and used strong words because he wanted people to really hear him.
“I think soft drinks are the scourge of our society, so I’ve been trying to bring people’s attention to it. It’s clear that soft drinks, high in calories and high in sugar, which people don’t appreciate, is a huge danger,” said the surgeon.
