After that, the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Armenia in the Council of Europe participated in the commemorative event held near the Martyrs’ Monument in Strasbourg Square, which was attended by the Deputy Mayor of Strasbourg, the Deputy Governor of the Lower Rhine, representatives of Armenian structures and the Armenian community.
After the prayer offered by Reverend Komitas, spiritual pastor of St. Sargis Armenian Apostolic Church in Strasbourg, speeches were made by Armenian Permanent Representative to the Council of Ministers, Ambassador Armen Papikyan, Deputy Mayor of Strasbourg, Deputy Governor of Lower Rhine, representatives of the Armenian community.
In his speech, Ambassador Papikyan paid tribute to the memory of one and a half million innocent victims of the Armenian Genocide carried out in the Ottoman Empire 111 years ago, emphasizing the imperative of the need to work towards the prevention of genocides in the context of current geopolitical developments, reminding the 2015 The fact of establishing December 9 as a day of remembrance for the victims of genocide at the initiative of Armenia. The ambassador once again thanked France for recognizing the Armenian Genocide and setting April 24 as a day of remembrance for the innocent victims.
The commemorative events continued in the Kehl city church, which was attended by the Kehl mayor and representatives of the Armenian community.
In his speech, Ambassador Papikyan added that, despite the efforts made to prevent genocides, the world is still faced with hatred, intolerance and crimes against humanity, the fight against which requires universal responsibility and international cooperation.
In the speeches, words of gratitude were once again addressed to the countries that provided asylum in 1915. survivors of the crime, recognized and condemned the Armenian Genocide.
