Latin pop queen Shakira delighted the audience of about two million people who filled the famous Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday, under the full moon, performing her greatest hits and sending messages of love to Brazil.
The Colombian superstar took the stage dressed in the colors of the Brazilian flag shortly after 11 p.m., more than an hour later than the scheduled start. Her exit was announced by drones that formed the image of a she-wolf in the sky, her nickname.
“Brazil, I love you! It’s magical to think that we are here, millions of souls together, ready to sing, dance, be emotional and remind the world of what really matters,” Shakira told the audience in Portuguese.
“Two million people. Vučica wrote history in Rio de Janeiro,” Mayor Eduardo Kavalerije wrote on the X network, referring to the official tourism organization.
In previous years, Copacabana Beach hosted some of the biggest music stars, Madonna performed in front of 1.6 million people in 2024, while Lady Gaga sang in front of around 2.1 million fans last year.
At this spectacle, Shakira performed hits such as “Hips Don’t Lie”, “La Bicicleta”, “La Tortura” and “Estoy Aquí” on a huge stage in front of the legendary Kopakabana Hotel, which was 1,345 square meters.
The concert included as many as 10 costume changes, and Shakira also performed with Brazilian pop star Anita, while the guests included Brazilian music legends Caetano Veloso and Marija Betania.
With more than 90 million albums sold, four Grammy Awards, 15 Latin Grammys and a repertoire that includes the hits “Hips Don’t Lie”, “Waka Waka” and “Whenever, Wherever”, Shakira enjoys enormous popularity in Brazil, where she has already performed several times.
