Damascus, May 2 (SANA) The Syrian Petroleum Company said on Saturday that 70 tankers carrying Iraqi crude oil had reached the Rabia border crossing on the Iraqi side, in preparation to enter Syria via al-Yarubiyah crossing on their way to global markets.
Director of Corporate Communications Safwan Sheikh Ahmad said the shipments had been rerouted from al-Tanf crossing to al-Yarubiyah via the M4 highway toward Banyas, on the Mediterranean, aiming to shorten transit time and ensure faster delivery, without affecting existing contracts.
The General Company for Ports of Iraq announced on Friday the start of crude exports through the Rabia–al-Yarubiyah crossing, dispatching the first 70 tankers toward Syria in a step to activate the route as a strategic corridor for oil exports.
Earlier in April, the first Iraqi fuel convoys entered Syria through al-Tanf crossing toward the Banyas Oil Port in preparation for export to global markets, underscoring Syria’s role as a regional transit hub.
