She pointed out that current laws do not stipulate that local and parliamentary elections must be held on the same day.
“The mandate of the current convocation of the Assembly lasts until July 27, 2027. In accordance with the Law on the Election of Councilors and Members of Parliament, parliamentary elections must be held no later than 15 days before the end of the mandate, which in this particular case means until July 12, 2027, with the fact that the elections are held on a Sunday, so the latest possible date for their holding is July 11, 2027. Unlike local elections, for which the law has already established exact date, in the case of parliamentary elections, the law leaves it to the President of Montenegro to determine their exact date within the clearly prescribed deadlines, whereby at least 60 and no more than 100 days must pass between the announcement and the holding of the election,” she points out.
As he adds, the valid amendments to the legislation provide for local elections to be held on June 13.
“From the above, it is clear that there is no legal obligation to hold these elections on the same day, but that their date, when it comes to parliamentary elections, will depend on the decision of the President of Montenegro and compliance with the prescribed deadlines. It is important that citizens have clear and accurate information about the election rules, in order to avoid confusion and preserve confidence in the election process,” she added.
