advertisement P.S.D–GOLD regarding the submission of a motion of censure against the Bolojan government hit the Bucharest Stock Exchange hard, after it had started on the plus side this Monday. The BET index, the most watched barometer of the Bucharest Stock Exchange, fell sharply after the press conference on the no-confidence motion, after a maximum of 29,596 points during the morning. Shares of several companies also fell.
At 11:19 a.m., the index was down 28,994 points, down 1.01% from its previous close, dropping to the day’s low as soon as the political news broke into the public space. By 12 noon, the day’s low had hit 28,767, down 1.5%.
The state’s borrowing costs rose, and Banca Transilvania’s shares fell by 2.5%. Transgas and Nuclearelectrica fell by 2%. Petrom decreased by 1.3%.
“Our market reacted negatively to the announcement of the censure motion he is about to file P.S.D-GOLD. Instability at the government level is not to the liking of investors, so they charge this by selling orders issued at prices below those recorded on Friday,” says Marcel Murgoci, Estinvest, according to Financial newspaper.
“Not only share prices suffer a drop, but bond prices are also falling. All this news of instability influences financial decisions,” says Costin Brumă, broker of Swiss Capital, the largest intermediary on the Stock Exchange.
PSD and AUR announced that they are preparing a motion of censure against the Cabinet led by Ilia Bolojan.
“We are making a joint effort to draft a motion of censure (…) with the aim of dismissing the Bolojan government,” said Petrișor Peiu.
The social democrat Marian Neacșu added that the technical details are being worked on, and the political approach is to be established by the presidents of the two parties.
The motion could reach debate at the beginning of May.
