by Mario Panizza The history of L’Aquila cannot be separated from the earthquakes that have repeatedly hit it, devastating its architectural heritage and causing victims among its inhabitants. The last one, in 2009, lasted for several days with swarms that were all destructive, causing serious damage especially in the central area of the city. The choice to elect it as Capital of Culture cannot therefore be separated from the memory and memories which combine, in a single judgement, the quality of its artistic works and the ability to have always been able to regenerate both materially and culturally.
