The material is dedicated to the 148th anniversary of the city of Bishkek, which is celebrated on April 29.
A selection of archival photographs covers iconic places of the capital. The photographs, taken from the 1930s to the 1980s, capture the squares, public buildings and sports facilities that shaped the city during the Soviet years. Some of them have survived to this day, others have disappeared, giving way to new buildings. Together, these images form a visual chronicle of Frunze, the city that is today known as Bishkek.
Photos from the funds of the Central State Archive of Film, Photo and Sound Documents of the Kyrgyz Republic.
