Another municipality in the Banskobystrica region is protecting people from bears. It is Málinec in the Poltár district, where the local government draws attention to the area in which five bears have been spotted.
It stretches from the local part of Stupník to the hunting lodge.
“We ask citizens to be more careful in the mentioned location, to limit movement especially in the evening and morning hours and not to move alone,” the municipality published on Monday, April 27, on the social network.
They are getting closer long weekendsit is assumed that more people will go out into nature. “Since we are primarily concerned with their safety, we wanted to warn them to be cautious,” Málinc mayor Igor Lacko told MY Novohrad.
He added that the bear had been seen there in the past. There was no situation where he attacked a person in the cadastre of the village.
Regarding the current situation, he said that he was alerted to it by locals who have a meadow in the affected area and graze cattle there. The local hunters also confirmed the information about the occurrence of five bears in the local part of the village.
“This is a location where people tend to go for walks, you can walk to Hradište from there. The hunting lodge is private. Mushroom pickers also visit this place, but now the mushrooms don’t grow yet,” concluded Lacko.
The State Nature Conservancy (ŠOP) reminds that the bear rut has begun, when males, during an active search for a bear, cover long distances. “They are more mobile, less predictable and can be more aggressive.”
They emphasized that the increased risk is also posed by guide bears with cubs, which they protect intensively.
State conservationists recommend not to move through the forest at dawn, dusk or at night. Also limit access to dense and unclear terrain.
“Use the marked tourist routes, watch for signs of the bear’s presence, such as droppings and tracks. When encountering it, keep calm, move away slowly and do not turn your back. In case of danger to health, life or property, immediately contact 112,” they advise.
They remind that people can also contact individual emergency teams directly.
“We also appeal for cooperation in reporting the occurrence of a bear. Timely information enables a quick and effective response of emergency teams,” concluded the ŠOP.
