From Desada Metaj
Mereme Sela entered the headquarters of the Democratic Party yesterday at the right moment: the cameras were on, the journalists were waiting, the door was open for a scene that seemed to be planned in advance. It was clear to everyone that it was not a question of a candidate in a real race, the result of which was known without the race being announced. Mereme Sela entered the DP abused by the need to fill the void of a process that had been left without opponents.
Those who brought him there were not looking for a figure to challenge Sali Berisha, but a figure to justify the existence of the race. A name enough to say that the procedure was being followed. But even this turned out to be more difficult than it seemed. Because even fictitious candidacy requires a minimum of political fantasy, a fine line between formality and absurdity.
The selectors of Meremja did not anticipate something: within a few hours, Meremja was no longer a candidate, but a personality of social networks. Not as part of a race, but an object of ridicule with one of the funniest political races in Albanian politics, which in fact has had quite a few.
While Berisha’s serviles were excited by Merema’s popularity, Sali Berisha, as an old political wolf, understood the danger of making even more ridiculous a race that was full of pathos before it started. The reaction came quickly. According to the confessions, an order was given from Croatia to remove him from the scene. Not because it jeopardized the result, but because it jeopardized the seriousness of the farce. Because even an empty and ridiculous process needs to maintain a minimum of form.
And so the complete absurdity happened: a made-up candidate for a made-up race was eliminated because she was not even worthy of her made-up role.
However, in all this theater, Meremja was at least not treated like those who dress the best, get their hair done at the hairdresser’s and have made some money from PD. She, unlike many others, is not playing to stay inside the circle. On the contrary, he has warned that he will take the Democratic Party to court for the fact that it did not accept him as a candidate, turning its exclusion from a funny episode into a big scandal for Sali Berisha and his court.
In the end, Sali Berisha decided to run alone, perhaps one of the rare cases when the truth appears without filters in DP. It is a sin to think that money and human resources will be spent on this competition. But at least there will be a bitter truth for those outside that party: PD belongs to Sali Berisha. And unfortunately, that party has collapsed to the point where it can no longer even find fictitious candidates. Or at least no candidate who would convince even the blindest militants that he plays the role well. And when you think that once the fictitious candidate in front of Sali Berisha was Uran Butka, you understand that the alienation of the DP has extended from the chairman and the dome… to the fictitious candidates.
