Thirty-five years after the death, name Franko Lisica still occupies a special place in the memory of Zadar County. The young Croatian veteran was only 23 years old when he died on Štrkovača hill near Polača in 1991, hit by a sniper shot during a conflict with rebel Serbian forces, writes Zadarski list.
His death is considered the first victim of the Homeland War in this area and symbolizes the beginning of the defense of the Zadar region and the sacrifice made by the Croatian defenders.
