In Podgorica, as part of the ceremonial conventions on the occasion of the establishment of the Municipal Committee of the Forum of Women Democrats of the Capital City, as well as the Municipal Committee of the Forum of Women Democrats Tuzi, a series of activities were held within the Academy of Democrats and the Educational Program “Equality is Female”.
Zdenka Popović was elected as the president of the Municipal Board of the Podgorica Women’s Forum.
She said that she always advocated for gender equality and that the voice of women must be heard.
“Women must believe in themselves, have the dignity and strength to fight for the truth, for social and human values. Half the world is made up of women, and the other half is their children – that’s why it’s natural for us to build an equal society. The quota of 40% is an important step, but not the ultimate goal. We must fight for full gender parity, because women make up more than half of society. It’s time to introduce the principle of equality – one man, one woman – and to give women a real chance in politics. We are here to support and mentor all women who want to get involved and contribute. In the end, what we are looking for is simple – half the sky, half the earth, half the power,” Popović said.
Roberta Camaj was elected vice-president from among the youth. The function of secretary of the Municipal Committee of the Forum of Women Democrats will be performed by Snežana Nikolić.
“Feminism is not just a word, a movement or a doctrine. It is a way of life. Feminism is a kind of anti-chauvinism, anti-fascism, anti-militarism, pacifism and humanism. It is an example of how women function – united, strong, dedicated and in solidarity, because through centuries of struggle we have learned that our strength lies in teamwork, joint struggle, but also the responsibility that each one of us bears”, said Valentina Minic, president of the Forum of Women Democrats.
