A serious traffic accident occurred on the A1 highway linking Tunis to Sousse, causing significant material damage and paralyzing traffic towards the capital.
The section of highway linking Sousse to Tunis was the scene of a scene of chaos yesterday at the Sidi Khelifa station. A spectacular pileup involved two heavy goods vehicles, several passenger vehicles and an intercity taxi (rental). The violence of the impact left the carcasses of the vehicles scattered on the tracks, testifying to the extent of the collision.
As soon as the alert was given, Civil Protection units and several ambulances were dispatched to the scene to secure the area and provide assistance to any victims. Although initial data shows considerable material damage, the rapid intervention of emergency services made it possible to take charge of the situation as quickly as possible.
This incident caused a massive traffic blockage, creating kilometers of traffic jams for users heading towards Tunis. National Road Guard patrols had to redouble their efforts to regulate the incessant flow of vehicles and to tow damaged vehicles. The objective was to clear the roadway as quickly as possible in order to avoid any accident on this strategic axis, known for its very high traffic density.
