- Stacey Doranski of Chicago suffered a brain aneurysm at a gas station in Tinley Park on Christmas Eve.
- Store manager Skyler Smith immediately called 911 – saving the lives of the pregnant woman and her unborn child.
- Four months later, Stacey was able to thank the man.
«You are the reason I am still alive. You are the reason my daughter is still alive. Thanks alot.” For four months, Stacey Doranski of Chicago tried to find the person who would give birth to her and her unborn child saved life had. Now the US broadcaster NBC brought the two together – and Stacey couldn’t hold back her tears.
It all started on Christmas Eve: The expectant mother was vacuuming her car at a gas station in the suburb of Tinley Park when she suddenly lost consciousness. As it later turned out in the hospital, she suffered a brain aneurysm.
The gas station manager saved Stacey’s life
“The next thing I remember is waking up in the ambulance. The paramedics asked me if I was having seizures, but all I could say was, ‘I’m pregnant, I’m pregnant.'”
“Most people don’t survive a brain aneurysm. So the fact that I managed to do it is absolutely incredible.”
The fact that Stacey was able to receive medical care so quickly is thanks to Skyler Smith, the gas station branch manager, who immediately called 911. “Most people don’t survive a brain aneurysm. Often they don’t even make it to the ambulance. So the fact that I did it is absolutely incredible,” said Stacey.
“I was just doing my job”
“I really wanted to speak to the person who found me on the ground to thank her from the bottom of my heart for saving not only my life, but also that of my daughter,” she added.

During an interview with NBC, a special surprise was waiting for her: The broadcaster had tracked down Skyler Smith and brought the two together for the first time – so Stacey was able to personally thank her savior.
Skyler responded modestly: “No problem, ma’am. “I was just doing my job,” he said, explaining that he immediately noticed “that something was wrong.” When he saw that Stacey was foaming at the mouth, he immediately called the police.
Finally, he congratulated the visibly touched mother on the birth of her now four-month-old daughter Piper.
