Karmen Herceg from Sibenik shared on her Facebook profile that today marks 20 years of her craft. This fashion designer and creator is well known in Krešimirov, where she left a strong mark with her work.
Behind her is a difficult life story – she was born with severe disabilities: her right foot and both hands are not developed, she has strabismus and facial paresis. Despite this, she did not allow limitations to stop her on the way to realizing her own dreams.
– They told me that I should go to a “special” school, but I finished regular and general high school. They said I couldn’t go to college, but I finished it among 30 out of 80 students, and within the deadline. They didn’t want to hire me, so I opened my own business – said Herceg.
And she did – she graduated from the Faculty of Textile Technology, after which she opened her own fashion studio in her hometown. Her work is well known to the Šibenik public – she has numerous fashion shows and participation in various projects behind her, and she especially stood out in the first days of the pandemic, when, during the shortage of protective masks, she sewed masks for children for free.
– I always knew how much I could do and what I wanted. I am realistic, persistent and disciplined. I survived without privileges, incentives, connections and benefits – I achieved everything with my 6.25 fingers, knowledge and skill. Thank you for your trust – said this creative woman from Šibenik on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of her craft.
