The Minister of Public Security, Frank Ábregoannounced on the morning of this Thursday, April 30, that The Government plans to purchase 10,000 bulletproof vests for the National Policein response to the increase in crime rates in the country.
During the weekly conference held this Thursday at the Children’s Hospital, the official acknowledged that the institution currently has around 5,000 vests, which requires them to be shared between units on duty.
“All units that participate in high-level or dangerous operations have their bulletproof vest available”he assured, although he admitted that part of the existing equipment is already expired.
Ábrego explained that conversations are being held with the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) to complete the acquisition during this year, as part of a plan to strengthen the security conditions of police personnel.
“We are talking about effectively purchasing 10,000 bulletproof vests precisely due to the rise in the crime rate,” Indian.
The minister stressed that the purchase is part of a project in development, aimed at guaranteeing better protection tools for agents who participate in risk operations.
