Bahamian professional baseball player Jasrado ‘Jazz’ Chisholm Jr. remains on fire, and so is his team the New York Yankees in Major League Baseball (MLB).
Chisholm hit his third home run of the season on Monday, and third in five days, leading the Yankees to their ninth win in their last 10 games. The Yankees defeated the Texas Rangers, 4-2, at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, on Monday.
In his last five games, Chisholm is batting .400 with three home runs, seven RBIs (runs batted in) and seven runs scored. He has four multi-hit performances in his last seven games, his first three-hit game of the season, and as mentioned, three home runs.
Hitting fifth in the lineup on Monday, the Bahamian second baseman of the Yankees finished with a home run in four at-bats.
For the season, Chisholm is slashing .218/.301/.356 with three home runs, 10 RBIs and 13 runs scored.
With the Yankees up 3-0 in the top of the fourth inning on Monday, Chisholm delivered a solo shot to right field to pad the lead to 4-0. He turned on a 84.9 miles per hour (mph) slider from Rangers’ right handed starter Jack Leiter. The shot, which came on the first pitch of the at-bat, traveled 406 feet at an exit velocity of 106.7 mph, with a launch angle of 34 degrees.
Chisholm and the Yankees had their eight-game winning streak snapped by the Houston Astros on Sunday, and now, they appear bent on starting another one.
Ben Rice and Aaron Judge also hit home runs for the Yankees on Monday, and they passed the Los Angeles Dodgers in total home runs, giving them a league-leading 46 on the season.
Max Fried pitched six scoreless innings for the Yankees on Monday, and earned the win. Pinch hitter Joc Pederson hit a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh for the Rangers to get them on the scoreboard. They added a run in the bottom of the ninth, but it was too little too late for them. Leiter suffered the loss for the Rangers.
The Yankees will stay on the road and face the Rangers again tonight. The game is set for an 8:05 p.m. start at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
Chisholm now has multi-hit performances in four of his last seven games, after having none in his first 21 games of the season. He also has nine stolen bases on the season, in a three-way tie for sixth in the majors.
The 28-year-old star second baseman of the Yankees had a slow start to the season, but is now beginning to show the form which earned him a second career all-star appearance last season.
The Yankees have a 19-10 win/loss record, and lead the American League East Division by one and a half games over the Tampa Bay Rays (17-11).
