KOTA KINABALU (April 30): In conjunction with Labour Day 2026, the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Sabah Branch reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring engineering creates real and visible benefits for the people of Sabah.
Its chairman, Ir. Ts. Tan KJ, JP, said engineering impact must go beyond plans and promises, stressing that it should be practical, measurable, and meaningful in addressing daily challenges faced by the rakyat.
He said key areas requiring urgent engineering solutions include reliable water supply, flood mitigation, and the development of resilient infrastructure in line with the aspirations of Sabah Maju Jaya 2.0.
Tan noted that Sabah is uniquely positioned to become a living laboratory for engineering innovation, where ideas can be tested under real conditions and translated into solutions that improve lives.
He added that by strengthening professionalism, nurturing future talent, and fostering collaboration across sectors, the engineering community can help accelerate sustainable development throughout the state.
“The message is simple — let Sabah be a place where engineering impact is not just discussed, but delivered,” he said.
Tan also paid tribute to the contributions of workers across all industries on Labour Day, reaffirming that engineers will continue to play a vital role in building a stronger, more resilient, and future-ready Sabah.
