Hungarian police participation in Western Balkan border control continues in joint operations. Additional police contingents departed Budapest on Wednesday for Bulgaria and Serbia to support border protection duties, the Hungarian Police Headquarters’ Communications Service announced on police.hu.
Hungary remains committed to preventing illegal border crossings along the Western Balkan migration route. In addition to carrying out its domestic responsibilities, it continues to actively support the border protection efforts of countries in the region, they stated.
Members of the 16th Hungarian police unit heading to Bulgaria and the 41st unit deployed to Serbia departed Budapest on April 29 from the Central Facility of the Rapid Response Police.
Within the framework of the mission, Hungary is providing support to Bulgaria with 2 officers and 15 officers to Serbia for border control duties.
The primary tasks of the Hungarian units deployed to Bulgaria and Serbia will be to prevent and detect illegal border crossings, as well as to assist in apprehending human traffickers and undocumented migrants.
The contingents will be equipped with modern technical tools, including off-road service vehicles, handheld night vision devices, portable thermal cameras, and mobile thermal imaging systems, the statement said.
