The Head of Government, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch received, Thursday April 30, 2026 in Rabat, Mr. Christopher Landau, American Deputy Secretary of State, who is making an official visit to Morocco.
These talks, in which the United States Ambassador to Morocco, Mr. Duke Buchan, took part, were an opportunity to examine ways to consolidate strategic relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States of America, under the leadership of the two heads of state, HM King Mohammed VI, may God help him, and American President HE Donald Trump.
During this meeting, the Head of Government expressed the consideration of the Kingdom of Morocco for the position of the United States of America with regard to the national question, the USA having reiterated, yesterday Wednesday, its recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and emphasized its constant support for the Moroccan autonomy proposal, qualified as a unique basis for achieving a just and permanent solution to the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.
The Head of Government also welcomed Washington’s support for American companies wishing to invest in the southern provinces of the Kingdom, particularly in the sectors of green hydrogen, tourism, agriculture and green energies. He highlighted the leading role that Morocco can play as a gateway for American investments in the African continent, as part of a win-win partnership.
The two parties also reviewed the opportunities to develop economic, investment and commercial partnerships between Morocco and the United States and emphasized the importance of bilateral cooperation through in particular the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and the International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), as well as the importance of supporting and supervising the activities of American operators in the social sector, particularly in education and health.
These talks were also an opportunity to recall the depth of historic bilateral relations, since the signing in 1787 of the Moroccan-American peace and friendship treaty and to express the common aspiration for promising horizons between the two friendly countries.
