(VIDEO) Drama on the runway: a Swiss Air plane aborted takeoff due to a malfunction
In the early hours of the morning, a real drama took place at the airport in New Delhi, when a Swiss Air plane suddenly exploded during takeoff. Due to engine failure, all passengers were evacuated, several of them suffered injuries.
At around 2:30 am local time, a dangerous incident took place at the airport in New Delhi, as a result of which the Airbus A330-300 of the company Swiss Air aborted the take-off. The plane, which was destined for Zurich, was already in the acceleration phase when the crew detected a serious technical fault in one of the engines.
Captain Guillermo Maximiliano Mulet immediately applied the brakes and managed to stop the plane, which was carrying 245 people, including 228 passengers and 17 crew members.
Authorities declared a state of emergency due to reports of smoke, which was likely the result of heavy braking. As there was a risk of fire, the crew ordered the immediate evacuation of all present directly to the runway.
Six injured
Six passengers suffered minor injuries during the descent on the inflatable rescue boats. They were taken to a nearby hospital for further examination.
Following the incident, the airline set up a special task force to investigate the cause of the malfunction, while local teams in Delhi arranged for accommodation and alternate flights for all passengers.
Airport officials confirmed that all security protocols were implemented quickly and efficiently, resulting in no disruption to airport operations. Swiss Air apologized to all passengers for the situation and emphasized that safety remains their first priority.
