    No help for Josepha

It seems to have had an effectwhen Sermitsiaq three weeks ago revealed the website søstreneniviogaja.dk as a scam whose sole purpose is to lure money out of the pockets of gullible knitting enthusiasts who want knitted sweaters with patterns inspired by the Greenlandic national costume.

In any case, the backers have now changed the website so that it is no longer Josepha Kûitse Kunak Thomsen’s face that appears on the top AI-generated photo of the two sisters who are allegedly behind the business.

In addition, the recommendations at the bottom of the page have changed, so that it is no longer photos of Sofia Rossen from Nuuk and Dorthe Ivalo Jensen from Sisimiut that catch the eye. But the text, attributed to Else from Kolding and Bodil from Herning, is unchanged.

    The scam continues

So the fraud continues – and we cannot warn enough against the website that entices with freight-free shipping of Greenlandic knitwear to the Commonwealth. “We pay the customs – no surprises!”

    PURE AI SCAM

The top photo with Josepha Kûitse Kunak Thomsen on the website søstreneniviogaja.dk has been replaced with a photo of an apparently Greenlandic woman sitting in a mountain landscape with a sled dog by her side. We have tried to find the original photo using the Google search engine. For the search, the entire image is used – and not the cropped photo that can be found on the website.

    Here is Google’s response:

“The image bears several of the typical signs of being AI-generated.

Although at first glance it looks very realistic, the details often reveal the truth. Here’s what you can look for:

The sweater: The pattern on her right shoulder and sleeve (on the left in the picture) seems a bit disjointed. AI often has difficulty maintaining a precise, repeating knitting pattern over complex curves like a shoulder. The Hands: If you look closely at her left hand (the one resting on her knee), the fingers and their placement look a bit “melted” or anatomically unclear. This is one of the most well-known characteristics of AI images. The dog’s fur and anatomy: The dog’s rear body disappears in a slightly illogical way behind the woman, and the transition between the dog’s white fur and the dry grass is very diffuse, almost as if they flow together. Background: The mountains and landscape have a very “perfect” and almost painterly quality that is often seen in AI-generated landscapes to create a specific mood.”

Although the website has now been changed, the illegal use of Josepha Kûitse Kunak Thomsen’s face continues. In several of the cover photos, you can still see Josepha both in the role of both Nivi and Aja.

Josepha Kûitse Kunak Thomsen was amazed and dismayed when she discovered the scam.

    – I haven’t knitted edderman for almost two years, was her blunt comment.

    – It’s a huge problem when you obviously don’t have digital ownership of your face. It is disgusting to know that you are being used like this to lure money out of people, says Josepha Kûitse Kunak Thomsen.

    – There is no doubt that Josepha has the court on her side. The use of a face for marketing purposes without consent is not permitted, explains dr.jur. Thomas Riis, who is professor of information law at the University of Copenhagen.

    Many clauses violated

    – As I see it, there are several sections that have been violated in the specific case – among other things the GDPR rules, but the question is whether you can use it for something, says Thomas Riis.

    – There is hardly any compensation and fee to be obtained for the unlawful use of the face – and money alone can hardly do it.

    – This is a general problem on the Internet. We saw this clearly a few years ago when TV presenter Dyvia Das was abused on Facebook in marketing questionable bitcoin investments without consent.

    – Both Dyvia Das and her employers at TV2 took up the matter – and it was also reported to the police. Meta, which owns Facebook, did not want to do anything, and it also ended with the case being dropped by the police, who did not think they could solve the case and lift any burden of proof in court.

    Can’t stand it

The answer from the law professor does not surprise Josepha Kûitse Kunak Thomsen.

    – I probably thought so, she says to Sermitsiaq.

    – I have otherwise looked into reporting it to the police, but I can’t even bear it, because I have the feeling that it won’t lead to anything.

    – I wish there were some clearer laws around it, especially now that AI is becoming more and more accessible. But also in relation to how easy it is to create an entire website that easily lures money out of people, says Josepha Kûitse Kunak Thomsen.

Sermitsiaq has found out with the search engine whois.com that the domain sostrenenivigaja.dk is owned by Jamal Ranj Hameed Rasul, who lives in Brøndby Strand near Copenhagen. According to the CVR register, Jamal Ranj Hameed Rasul runs the company The Fasion in the “footwear retail” industry. When the company was created in 2023, it was called CloseEffect.

We have tried to get a comment from Jamal Ranj Hameed Rasul on the telephone number which, according to Krak.dk, is linked to his address in Brøndby Strand, but the calls are not answered.
