Synopsis: A man dies defending his sister-in-law from an angry ex-boyfriend in Kandal province, while a husband and wife are found dead after a murder-suicide in Phnom Penh.
Three men and a woman died from stabbing injuries in two separate cases linked to jealousy over the last two days.
In Kandal province yesterday, a husband and wife died in a murder-suicide at a farm in Roteang village, Phum Thom commune, Kean Svay district.
Phum Thom Commune Police Chief Major Un Malis said the husband, Nouv Thuok, 43, killed himself after stabbing his wife, Suon Chamroeun, 41, to death.
He stated that the wife had asked for a separation due to the man’s unemployment and alcohol abuse. On the day of the murder, Thuok, who had been away for a month, returned to beg his wife to take him back. However, the wife refused and attempted to get him to leave.
“During the argument, the husband, who was drunk, stabbed her seven times with a vegetable knife, causing her to die on the spot,” he said.
“After killing his wife, he committed suicide by stabbing himself with the knife. He died near his wife.”
Their three young children who were orphaned have been placed under the care of their maternal grandmother in Kean Svay district.
In Phnom Penh on Sunday, two men killed each other during a knife fight in Choeung Ek commune.
Ton Channa, 24, and Sem Borey, 40, stabbed each other to death in Dangkor district, police said.
Channa had confronted his ex-girlfriend, Yi Samnang, after their breakup over domestic violence. When he tried to attack her, Borey intervened. The two men fought, seized a knife, and fatally stabbed each other at the scene.
