The rapporteur for North Macedonia in the European Parliament, Thomas Weitz in a statement about “Channel 5” television says that the interview from which his statements were broadcast this week, given to the Bulgarian editorial office of “Euronews”, was recorded more than seven weeks ago, and that it is not clear why that interview was published only now.
The television interview announced it on Sundayand the Macedonian media reported Weitz’s assessment that the country wasted a year and that there is no progress in the implementation of the reforms needed for membership in the European Union.
Now, Weitz says that he gave that interview in early March, and the grades he gave in it then reflected the current situation.
“The interview is from more than seven weeks ago and shows the assessment of the momentum at the beginning of March,” he says.
Weitz adds that he is surprised that the Euronews interview was published a few days ago.
“I don’t think it’s very professional, we were told otherwise. Not a bit surprised that it was published a few days ago. But yes, unfortunately, there seems to be some kind of agenda behind it,” said Weitz in an interview with “Channel 5”, which the television station announced that it will broadcast in full tomorrow.
According to him, “North Macedonia is making progress in the reform process and has additional time to fulfill the necessary obligations within the framework of the reform agenda until June”.
