In Africa, 75-year-old millionaire Ernie Dosio, who had a collection of hunting trophies, died while hunting antelope.
A man was trampled by a group of elephants, informs The Guardian.
A 75-year-old American native of California died while hunting in the tropical forest of the central African country of Gabon. Suddenly, the man and the guide came across five elephants and one baby.
According to a former hunter from Cape Town, wild animals were “surprised” to meet people.
Safari organizer Collect Africa confirmed the millionaire’s death to the Daily Mail. They also said that the man’s guide was seriously injured.
Ernie Dasio was the owner of Pacific AgriLands Inc., which managed more than 4,800 hectares of vineyards in the United States and also sold winemaking equipment.
Over the years, the millionaire amassed a large collection of hunting trophies, including elephants and lions. The man was well known in the American Sacramento Safari Club.
“Ernie has been hunting since he learned to hold a rifle and has many trophies from Africa and the USA.
Although many disapprove of big game hunting, all of Ernie’s hunts have been strictly licensed and fair, and registered as conservation efforts.”– said a former hunter who knew the American.
Gabon is home to approximately 95,000 forest elephants, making up most of the world’s endangered species.
Every year, supporters of trophy hunting kill tens of thousands of animals around the world. Legal hunting tours in Africa are popular among wealthy Americans, among whom were and sons US President Donald Trump.
International trophy hunting is a lucrative industry, with estimates ranging from $100 million in 2005 to $120 million in 2015 in South Africa.
