Minister of Finance Novica Vuković met with the Ambassador of Hungary to Montenegro, Peter Hetei, who expressed Hungary’s strong and principled support for Montenegro’s European path.
As announced by the Ministry of Finance (MoF), Vuković thanked Hungary for its continuous partnership from the very beginning of the accession process, stressing that it is of particular importance in the current, final phase of European integration.
He pointed to the significant presence of Hungarian companies on the Montenegrin market, especially large and successful investors, and expressed the expectation of their further expansion, with the simultaneous growth of trade and an increase in the number of tourists from Hungary in Montenegro.
Hetei congratulated the formation of the working group for the drafting of the Agreement on the Accession of Montenegro to the European Union, evaluating that step as an important signal of progress in the negotiation process.
He pointed out that Montenegro represents a positive example in the region, confirming that, through dedicated and comprehensive reforms, the goal of full membership can be reached. He also emphasized that he expects an additional improvement of the traditionally good bilateral and economic relations, through more intensive dialogue and stronger economic cooperation.
During the meeting, the importance of concluding intergovernmental agreements, which raise cooperation to a higher, strategic level and open space for new investment initiatives, was highlighted.
It was also established that the establishment of the Wizz Air base in Podgorica represents a significant step forward in better connections with European destinations, with a strong incentive for the development of tourism and business.
“The interlocutors agree that the relations of Montenegro, as the first next member of the EU, and Hungary are entering a new phase, which should be marked by even more significant results, stronger economic ties and an additionally strengthened political partnership”, they pointed out from this department.
