Yesterday, at the Exhibitions Palace in Karam, President of the Republic Kais Saied supervised the opening of the fortieth session of the Tunis International Book Fair, whose activities will continue until May 3, 2026 under the slogan “When the Book Becomes a Homeland.”

Upon his arrival at the Exhibition Palace in Al-Karam, the Head of State was received by the Minister of Cultural Affairs, Amina Al-Sarrafi, the Governor of Tunisia, Imad Boukhris, the Director of the Tunis International Book Fair, Mohamed Saleh Al-Qadiri, and a number of representatives of the regional and local authorities who accompanied him on his tour between the various pavilions. He was also received by a number of ambassadors and representatives of diplomatic missions accredited in Tunisia

The Head of State began his visit by reviewing the exhibition “The Rhythm of Letters: Calligraphy Arts in Tunisia, Experiences and Trends,” where he viewed the paintings on display and had a lengthy conversation with a number of supervisors of the National Center for Calligraphy Arts and the center’s students who contributed to furnishing this exhibition with their paintings. Then he went to the pavilion of the Tunis International Center for the Digital Cultural Economy, where he was briefed on a number of projects that the center is working on and examples of innovations accomplished by young people who launched emerging institutions with the support of the center.

In the pavilion of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, the President of the State, in addition to the Ministry’s officials, was received by a number of children, including a visually impaired girl, and the twins Bisan and Bilsan Kouka, who won the Arab Reading Challenge Award last year. On the occasion, the President was briefed on the Ministry’s activities and a number of institutions affiliated with it.

Then President Kais Saied went to the pavilion of the Republic of Indonesia, the guest of honor of the session, where Ambassador Zuhairi Masrawi and a group of Indonesian participants were waiting for him. He was received by the rhythms of an Indonesian folk dance (the giant puppet dance) and reviewed the titles of a number of books issued by the Indonesian embassy in Tunisia and the works of a group of Indonesian students, in addition to being acquainted with the main books of the scholar Abdul Rahman Ibn Khaldun and works by the scholar Sheikh Al-Taher bin Ashour.

On this occasion, the Indonesian ambassador to Tunisia presented to the President of the Republic, according to a video clip published by the presidential services on its official Facebook page, the book “From Jakarta to Carthage” by author Rashid Idris, in which he talked about the ties of cultural and civilizational communication between Tunisia and Indonesia.

The President of the Republic then visited the booth of the Independent High Electoral Commission, where those responsible for the wing presented him with the “Democratic Awakening Bag,” which is a pedagogical bag directed at children and adolescents at different age levels, used by the educational framework as an educational tool directed at students, and used in awareness-raising activities organized by the Commission. He also viewed, by the way, a copy of the bag written in Braille and a copy addressed to clubs in schools, in addition to presenting some addresses and documents that were used to furnish the Center for Documentation and Electoral Studies, which will open its doors. Soon.

The Head of State continued his tour of the exhibition by visiting the pavilions of several private exhibitors. He also visited the pavilions of the University Publishing Center and the Ministry of Education, where he spoke at length with a number of students who had completed innovative projects that rely on modern technologies.

The President of the Republic also visited the pavilion of the Ministry of Communication Technologies, the pavilion of the Ministry of National Defense, the pavilion of the Higher Institute of Contemporary History of Tunisia, the pavilion of the House of Wisdom, and the pavilion of the National Allied Pulp and Paper Company. He also visited the pavilions of the embassies of a number of brotherly and friendly countries, including Algeria, Palestine, the Sultanate of Oman, Iran and Russia, in addition to visiting the pavilion of the Arab Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO).

During his tour of the exhibition, the Head of State met with a number of young people from the National Center for Media for Children affiliated with the Ministry of Family, Women, Children and the Elderly, who were accompanied by the Director of the Center for Research, Studies, Documentation and Information on Women “Credev” (a representative of the Minister of Family) and on the occasion provided an overview of the Digital Safety Ambassadors project.

The President of the Republic affirmed that the people of Tunisia are the future of our country, as he exchanged conversations with a group of students present at the Tunis International Book Fair, saying that Tunisia, which has been armed with the weapon of education, has always been distinguished and will remain distinguished, indicating that the Supreme Council for Education will soon be established.

In this context, the Head of State added that they are the builders of the future and free Tunisia, and imbued with the national spirit, stressing the need to empower them with all means and capabilities, continuing his statement that they are capable of creativity and excellence, and they are the ones who will carry the torch, as Tunisia remains a beacon throughout the world.

During this visit, the Head of State paid attention to public media institutions by visiting the pavilion of the Tunisian Africa News Agency, the pavilion of the SNIPE Lapras and Al-Sabah Foundation, and the pavilion of the Tunisian Radio Corporation. He concluded his tour of the exhibition by visiting the children’s and adolescents’ space, where he followed a group of workshops.
