President Donald Trump was rushed off the stage after shots rang out during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner at the Washington Hilton. The head of state, Vice President JD Vance and members of his cabinet are safe and under heavy security.
A Secret Service agent was shot, but his bulletproof vest protected him. He is hospitalized.
Trump announced on social media that the attacker was neutralized and detained. According to law enforcement authorities, the suspect is a 31-year-old man from California.

According to Secret Service officials, he is alive and is being questioned after being treated for his injuries. A police source, in turn, specified that the man is in a local hospital with injuries sustained during his arrest.
Law enforcement has not yet revealed how the suspect got a handgun, a rifle, several knives and ammunition into the Washington Hilton Hotel, where he was a guest. So far, it is certain that he acted alone and had no accomplices.
It is not yet clear whether President Trump was the main target of the suspect or the gathering of correspondents and dignitaries.
This is the third shooting since 2024 to occur at events featuring Donald Trump. The first two were during the presidential election campaign. The one from last night is still not clear if it is against him personally or against the event – a meeting-dinner in Washington with the correspondents of the White House, which was also attended by high-ranking officials.
