PM calls for self-reliance during visit to rural Champasak communities
Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone has urged villagers in Champasak province to become more self-reliant, grow more crops, and take ownership of development under the Party’s “Three Builds”(Sam Sang) policy.
During a working visit over the weekend, the Prime Minister met residents of Nong Nga village in Mounlapamok district and advised them to play a more active role in improving their livelihoods.
He instructed village authorities to raise political awareness and encourage people to rely on their own efforts. He stressed the need to build strong, resilient communities that can drive development from within.
The Prime Minister also called for the expansion of production based on local strengths, suggesting cassava farming and sedge mat weaving as ways that villagers could augment their incomes.
He encouraged greater investment in vocational education so that young people learn useful skills and return home to support development in their communities.
On security, the Prime Minister advised village leaders to strengthen militia and public security forces to better prevent and address social problems.
Earlier, Mr Sonexay visited a large-scale rice production project in Pamok village. The project uses modern machinery, including drones and rice transplanting equipment, and has turned flood-prone land into productive farmland.
He praised the company’s efforts and urged it to expand the cultivated area from 600 hectares to 1,000 hectares by 2030. He also called for closer links with farmers, including direct purchase of their produce to improve incomes.
The Prime Minister concluded his visit by giving consumer goods and budget support to district authorities and Battalion 24 to improve the standard of living for officials, soldiers and local people.
His visit represents a significant step in engaging closely with the grassroots level, with the aim of translating the resolutions of the inaugural session of the 5th Champasak Provincial People’s Council into concrete results, in conjunction with the government’s political base-building work.
