“Out of the 42 representatives of the Fidesz-KDNP who won a mandate on the list, 25 decided not to take up the mandate, thereby giving the opportunity for others to become parliamentarians in their place,” announced Gergely Gulyás, the minister responsible for the outgoing Prime Minister’s Office, on Monday afternoon.
This change is already happening in 24 cases, and Balázs Orbán he will become a member of the European Parliament in July – added Gulyás, who also touched on the fact that the Fidesz-KDNP faction alliance will continue to consist of two factions, the KDNP faction will be led by Bence Rétvári, and the Fidesz faction by Gulyás.
“The election result was an unpleasant surprise for all of us, but at the same time we have to thank the 2.5 million people who voted for Fidesz on April 12,” he added.
He continued by saying that they will represent the interests of the country as a whole, and that it is important that the will of the two and a half million voters be expressed in the Parliament. “We think it is important to be able to show the value of what has been built up in the last sixteen years to this country. That it is important that the achievements that we have accepted in the last sixteen years remain and continue to grow this country.”
Negotiations between the parties will continue on Tuesday, the aim of which is to reach an agreement on the parliamentary committee structure and officials. Proposals will be made and information will be provided after the meeting.
“The task of Fidesz-KDNP is to be a normal opposition in the Hungarian Parliament.”
In conclusion, he said that good proposals will be supported, but “we will take action against the arbitrary decisions of the ruling party with a majority of more than two-thirds, and even the pursuit of arbitrariness, and we will make it clear that this is not what the voters gave us a mandate for.”
On Monday, the parliamentary faction of Fidesz and KDNP was formed, this time it was decided who will sit in the new parliament. Saying goodbye after thirty-six years from the representative mandate, alongside Viktor Orbán, László Kövér and Lajos Kósa, from the first parliament after the regime change, only Zsolt Németh can continue working. Antal Rogán, Szilárd Németh, Gábor Kubatov, Zsolt Semjén and Gabriella Selmeczi do not sit in the parliament either.
