Lukashenko names goals for Pripyat Polesie growth

MOZYR DISTRICT, 24 April (BelTA) – When implementing the development program for Pripyat Polesie, the emphasis should be placed on creating production facilities and preserving fertile lands, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said during a working trip to Mozyr District on 24 April, BelTA has learned.

“Production must come first, then kindergartens, education, healthcare,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko while discussing the implementation of the Pripyat Polesie development program during a seminar-conference in Mozyr District.

He cited the fishing industry, which is quite well developed in Polesie, as an example: “These are not complex production facilities, but we know how to build them. We need to look for such projects.”

According to the head of state, preserving fertile lands is an equally important task. In this regard, he once again drew attention to the relevance of reclamation as a key direction. At the same time, it is important to maintain already reclaimed lands, preventing them from becoming overgrown and falling out of agricultural use.

“Keep an eye, Mikhail Ivanovich, together with Leonid Konstantinovich [those responsible for the Pripyat Polesie development program Mikhail Rusy and Leonid Zayats], to ensure we save the lands. You know how they become overgrown when not cultivated properly,” Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized. “The people of Polesie will live here, come what may, with whatever production they have, sustained by the lakes, swamps, rivers, and land, regardless of the quality of that land. Perhaps we can come up with something to improve fertility.”

The president was briefed that agriculture is one of the priority areas in the development program for Pripyat Polesie. It is planned that by 2030, in the nine districts of Gomel Oblast and Brest Oblast included in the program, it will be possible to achieve targets of 1 million tonnes of milk, 1 million tonnes of grain (including corn), and 100,000 tonnes of beef. Overall, the program’s activities are being implemented on time and in full.

As BelTA reported earlier, the development program for the districts of Pripyat Polesie for 2025-2030 was developed in accordance with the instruction of the Belarusian president, set forth in subparagraph 1.1 of paragraph 1 of protocol of instructions No. 20 dated 22 October 2024.

The implementation of the document is aimed at improving the wellbeing and quality of life of the population in the districts of Pripyat Polesie: Gantsevichi District, Luninets District, Stolin District, and Pinsk District in Brest Oblast, and Yelsk District, Zhitkovichi District, Kalinkovichi District, Lelchitsy District, and Petrikov District in Gomel Oblast.

The foundations for growth are identified as increasing the efficiency of using the unique natural resource potential, strengthening the industrial complex, introducing best practices for working the land, and creating a comfortable environment that combines the features and advantages of a rural lifestyle with urban standards of infrastructure development and service provision.
