«The mandate that I won as the top candidate of the Fidesz-KDNP list is actually a parliamentary mandate of Fidesz, so I have decided to give it back. “I will not be needed in parliament now, but in the reorganization of the national side,” said Orban.
Orban wants to pull the strings in the background and restructure the party. The faction is to be reorganized on Monday with Gergely Gulyas at the helm. Orban announced a “complete renewal” of his party in mid-April.
In the election on April 12, the conservative Tisza party of opposition leader Peter Magyar won a two-thirds majority in parliament, which will enable the future head of government to carry out fundamental reforms. Magyar is replacing the EU-critical and pro-Kremlin Prime Minister Orban after 16 years in power.
