The average shopping basket value reached PLN 338.21 in March this year, which was 1.11% higher than in February and 7.43% higher than a year earlier – according to an analysis published on Friday by ASM SFA. Year-on-year price increases affected 12 out of 13 analyzed retail chains.
A Significant Increase
In March, the average shopping basket value in selected chains rose by PLN 23.38 compared to PLN 314.83 in March 2025. On an annual basis, price increases were recorded in 12 out of 13 analyzed retail chains. Compared to February this year, eight chains saw an increase, while the remaining five recorded a decrease in the prices of the analyzed products.
The cheapest shopping basket in March was offered by Auchan, where it cost an average of PLN 293.59 – PLN 1.24 less than in February this year. Auchan was the only chain that offered the analyzed set of products for less than PLN 300 last month. The second and third places in the ranking were taken by Makro Cash & Carry (PLN 23.59 more) and Dino (PLN 43.09 more).
The highest price for the analyzed basket was recorded in POLOmarket – PLN 361.20. This means that the difference between the cheapest and the most expensive chain in this comparison amounted to 23.03%.
The analysis noted that a basket based on the lowest prices reported across all locations of the surveyed chains would amount to PLN 254.64 (PLN 7.62 more than in February this year), while using the highest prices would result in PLN 399.66 (PLN 3.49 less than in February this year). The difference between the cheapest and the most expensive basket in March 2026 was PLN 145.02, which is PLN 11.11 lower than in February this year.
Expensive Baskets
Compared to February this year, the largest increase in the average shopping basket price was recorded in Selgros Cash & Carry – by 6.94%. The biggest decrease was observed in Biedronka – by 3.5%. On a yearly basis, the highest increase in basket value was recorded in Selgros Cash & Carry (11.66%), and “significant increases” were also noted in Carrefour (10.37%) and POLOmarket (10.28%). A decrease was observed only in Netto – by 0.5%.
It was also reported that among traditional retail formats, the cheapest shopping in March was available in hypermarkets, where the basket cost PLN 330.36. In Cash & Carry stores, it was PLN 333.05, and in discount stores – PLN 343.37. The most expensive shopping was offered by supermarkets – PLN 345.25.
