27 April 2026, Auckland NZ Press Release. The Miss Samoa NZ Organisation have announced the pageant will not be held in 2026 as part of a strategic transition to a biennial format, where it will instead be held every two years.
The release says current titleholder, Miss Samoa NZ 2025, Paulina Tapua’i-Soti will officially conclude her reign on 12 June 2026.
“In recognition of her service and leadership, Paulina will return to crown the next titleholder, Miss Samoa NZ 2027, at the subsequent pageant,” reads the press statement.
The press release does not specify if this means Miss Samoa NZ will now also be attending the national event every two years.
Director Seumanu Uliemaemae Te’eva Mätafai says, “the decision follows thoughtful consultation, including a recent meeting with the current titleholder.”
“The organisation has carefully considered a range of global and regional factors influencing the sustainability and delivery of large-scale cultural events..
“These include ongoing international pressures such as rising fuel costs and broader economic challenges, as well as recent unfortunate developments affecting other Pacific pageants,” said the Director.
“In response, we believe transitioning to a biennial format will strengthen the long-term quality, impact, and cultural integrity of Miss Samoa New Zealand.”
“The organisation remains committed to its core mission of celebrating Samoan culture, empowering young women of Samoan heritage, and fostering leadership within the community.”
“The additional time between pageants will allow for enhanced planning, deeper community engagement, and stronger support for future contestants.”
“Miss Samoa NZ extends its sincere appreciation to Paulina Tapua’i-Soti for her dedication and representation throughout her reign and looks forward to her continued involvement as she crowns her successor in 2027.”
“Further updates regarding the Miss Samoa NZ 2027 pageant will be shared in due course.”
