The National Administrative Department of Statistics (Dane) revealed in the last week that multidimensional poverty in the country was reduced to 9.9 percent, which meant that 800,000 people left this condition in 2025. Within that figure, the performance of Cundinamarca stood out, which reached the lowest index among the 32 departments.

Cundinamarca went from having 7.4 percent of its population in this condition in 2024 to 4.1 percent in 2025a figure that was enough to surpass territories like San Andrés. Valle del Cauca, Risaralda or Boyacá.
From another perspective, 113,000 people will leave this condition in 2025, marking a positive outlook for the region.

“This result then means that more and more people in Cundinamarca left this condition of poverty and today have a better quality of life. Our rural areas and populated centers also show outstanding results in access to health, basic sanitation, school attendance and labor formality, placing us in first place nationally in these indicators,” highlighted Governor Jorge Emilio Rey.
The differentiated results for populated centers and the countryside also reflected progress. In the municipal capitals, Cundinamarca managed to reduce from 6.8 percent to 3.2 percent, well below the 6.3 percent that was registered at the national level.

In the case of rural areas, in the department it fell from 9.4 percent in 2024 to 7.3 percent in 2025marking a pronounced distance compared to Colombia, where the rate also fell, but stood at 22.4 percent.
“This shows progress in overcoming historical gaps and better articulation between urban and rural areas, reflecting the impact of public policies and the strength of our communities,” Rey noted.
In that sense, the Government stated that The departmental development plan has pursued the objective of combating poverty in all its forms.

“It is the result of working with a social focus, with data, investments in infrastructure, mobility, security and with tools such as the Equity Roundtable and the Framework to Fight Poverty, which have allowed us to reach those who need it most,” Jorge Rey concluded.
With the result of this 2025, Cundinamarca completes two years online reducing the multidimensional poverty indexconsolidating a positive path in this matter. If we look back, in 2019 the indicator stood at 12.3 percent, and seven years later a decrease of 8.2 percentage points was achieved.
